Wayanad The paradise
One of the fourteen districts in Kerala (India) is situated in an elevated picturesque mountainous plateau in Western Ghats. It lies between north latitude 11degree 26’28’’ and 11degree 48’22’’ and east longitude 75 degree 46’38’’ and 76 degree 26’11’’.
There is a land not far from Calicut, the city of Zamorins, yet a world apart from Kerala's agricultural and industrial epicentres. It is a quiet place where scenic beauty wild life and traditional matter, simplicity is a virtue and beauty still blossoms from the mountainous horizon and from the green glaze of alluring vegetation. This is Wayanad - the green paradise - the border world of greener part of Kerala. Clean and pristine, enchanting and hypnotising this land has a history and mystery, culture and social epistemology yet to be discovered. Located at a distance about 76 km. from the sea shores of Calicut in the Western Ghats, this station is full of plantations, forests and wildlife. Wayanad hills are contiguous to Mudumala in Tamil Nadu and Bandhipur in Karnataka, thus forming a vast land mass for the wild life to move about in its most natural abode.

CLIMATE
Wayanad has a salubrious climate. The mean average rain fall in this district is 2322 m.m. Lakkidi, Vythiri and Meppadi are the high rainfall areas in Wayanad. Annual rain fall in these high rain fall areas ranges from 3,000 to 4,000m.m. High velocity winds are common during the south west monsoon and dry winds blow in March-April. High altitude regions experience severe cold. In Wayanad (Ambalavayal) the mean maximum and minimum temperature for the last five years were 29oC and 18oC respectively. This place experiences a high relative humidity which goes even up to 95 per cent during the south west monsoon period. Generally, the year is classifed into four seasons, namely, cold weather (December-February), hot weather (March-May), south west monsoon (June-September) and north east monsoon(October-November). The dale, 'Lakkidi', nestled among the hills of Vythiri taluk has the highest average rainfall in Kerala. The average rain fall in Wayanad is 300mm. per year. There is a decreasing trend in rainfall in this area. The average rainfall data shows that the lowest rain fall received from north east monsson, is in Wayanad district.

Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary:
Established in 1973, the Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary is contiguous to the protected area network of Nagarhole and Bandipur of Karnataka on the northeast and Mudumalai of Tamil Nadu on the southeast. Rich in bio diversity, the sanctuary is an integral part of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve , which has been established with the specific objective of conserving the biological heritage of the region. The sanctuary is rich in flora and fauna. The management lays emphasis on scientific conservation with due consideration for the general lifestyle of the tribals and others who live in and around the forest. Elephant, spotted deer. Bison, tiger, cheetah, wild bear etc. can be spotted here. Elephant rides are arranged by the Forest department.

Day 3 Thekkady: In the morning, check out of your hotel and drive to Thekkady (185kms/5hrs). Arrive and check into your hotel. Day 4 Thekkady: In the morning, proceed for an exciting boat ride in Lake Periyar. Periyar sanctuary, the main attraction of Thekkady, is one of the best sanctuaries in India for watching and photographing elephants at close quarters. Day 5 Kumarakom: This morning, proceed to Kumarakom (130kms/4hrs). Arrive Kumarakom by noon and transfer to your hotel. Kumarakom, a charming village on the eastern bank of Vembanadu Lake surrounded by paddy fields, is an ideal place for a backwater cruise. It is also called as “The Venice of the East”. In the afternoon, visit the bird sanctuary, an ornithologist's paradise and a favourite haunt of migratory birds like the siberian stork, egret, darter, heron and teal. Overnight in Kumarakom



Day 6 Kovalam: In the morning, drive to Kovalam (165kms/5hrs) by car. Arrive Kovalam and check into your hotel. Kovalam is India's most spectacular beach resort, just 16 km from Trivandrum. The clear water in Kovalam is ideal for swimming, surfing and skiing. Facilities like Ayurvedic massage, yoga, water sports etc are available here. Day would be free at leisure. Day 7 Kovalam: In the morning, leave the hotel for a city tour of Trivandrum which is half an hour away. Trivandrum, a sprawling 74 sq km city, is the capital of Kerala. The great variety of lovely old colonial and traditional Kerala buildings give Trivandrum a special ambience. The main attractions are the Govt. Day 5 Jaipur: This morning after breakfast proceed to Amber Fort which is located at a distance of 11 kilometers from Jaipur. Thereafter proceed for a half day tour of the “Pink City”, visiting the Maharaja's Palace which is known as “The City Palace”. Also visit Jantar Mantar the astronomical observatory built by Jai Singh, and drive past Hawa Mahal - the palace of winds, its five-storey façade decked with no less than 593 finely screened windows and balconies. You will also have some free time to explore the town and Lake Lucerne or take an exciting optional excursion to Mt Titlis (If time permits) to witness a spectacular view of glacier grotto (ice cave) and icefalls. Day 4:PARIS – CALAIS - DOVER – UK (320kms to Calais)
This morning, you’ll embark on a city orientation tour drive through Champs-Elysees and see some of the famous historic buildings- Bastille, Arc De Triomphe, Louvre, Concorde Square and many more historical monuments. Later visit Eiffel Tower to get a panoramic view of the city. In the early afternoon, you’ll drive to Calais for the short ferry crossing to Dover. Upon arrival at Dover, you’ll proceed towards your final destination. Your tour ends here and bid farewell to all friends you have made on the tour.

Day 01: UK – DOVER – CALAIS - BRUSSELS – HOLLAND(450kms from Calais)
A warm welcome from your Tour Director as you drive into Dover. Admire the white cliffs before the channel crossing over to Calais. Upon arrival, you continue your journey towards Brussels. Your orientation tour here includes the Atomium structure (photo stop), a visit to the Grand Place and a stop to see the Mannekin Pis. Continuing your journey, you will arrive into Holland and check into the hotel for two nights.

Day 02: MADURODAM/KEUKENHOF – VOLENDAM – AMSTERDAM (200kms)
After breakfast, you’ll drive towards The Hague, the political capital of Netherlands, visiting – Madurodam / Keukenhof (between 19th March to 21st May 2009, you will visit the Keukenhof Tulip Gardens instead of Madurodam). Later, enjoy a demonstration on the art of making wooden shoes at Clog Factory & Cheese Farm. Then you proceed to the famous fishing village of Volendam. Later you’ll visit the renowned Diamond factory. Discover Amsterdam in a novel manner, as you take canal cruise, the best way to see this captivating city.

Day 03: GERMANY – COLOGNE – KOBLENZ - BOPPARD RHINE CRUISE with Indian dinner (530kms)
After breakfast, you’ll drive to Cologne, famous for Eau de Cologne - visit the magnificent Cologne Cathedral. This 515 ft tall Gothic Cathedral is Germany’s most visited monument which took almost six centuries to build. Later you proceed towards Koblenz where you will see the famous monument of “Deutsches Eck” where the two rivers meet; R. Rhine and R. Mosel. Enjoy an Indian dinner on the R. Today’s highlight of the tour is the visit to the highest viewpoint in central Switzerland. A wonder not to be missed, ascending the Mt Titlis to witness a spectacular view of glacier grotto (ice cave) and icefalls. This is viewed directly from the ROTAIR - the world’s first revolving aerial cable car on Mt Titlis at 10,000 feet. Later proceed for an orientation tour of Lucerne, one of the six most frequently visited cities in the World. See the Lion Monument, which is designed as a memorial for the mercenary soldiers. You may take a stroll across the Kappelbrucke - the world’s oldest covered wooden bridge.

Day 1: UK - CAIRO

You meet your tour rep at Heathrow Airport and board onto your flight to Egypt. On arrival at Cairo International Airport, you will be assisted through the immigration and customs formalities. You will be transferred by our deluxe coach to our 4* hotel in Cairo.

Day 2: CAIRO CITY TOUR – EGYPT MUSEUM - PYRAMIDS - OVERNIGHT ASWAN TRAIN

Today you start early in the morning with a full day city tour of Cairo, visiting The Egyptian Museum, the Great Pyramids, Sphinx and Khan El Khalili Bazaars. After all the visits, you are transferred to the train station for an overnight sleeper train from Cairo to Aswan. (Train departs from Cairo at 20:30 and arrive Aswan at 08:50 the next day. Dinner and overnight on board the sleeper train.)

On arrival at Abu Simbel you visit the Temples of Ramses II and Queen Nefertari. Later in the afternoon you return to Aswan to board our 5* Nile Cruise. Overnight in Aswan.
